SOPA opera

Okay. Started reading some articles. Interesting stuff.

I hate to start right off with the drama (no I don’t. suck it!) but this is the order I read them. I don’t have to say anything. The article has all the info I have at this point.
SOPA and PIPA: What went wrong?

Of course I went to the gamer perspective next.
ESA finally drops support for SOPA, after the fact
Some fun facts and good news for me personally but still hungry.

Okay, I got distracted. Big freakin’ surprise. Here’s some tidbits for the linux users.
10 New Open Source Projects You May Not Know About

All in all, things worked out and people did what we do and I’m proud we did it. My greatest fear is that one day we will just stop fighting for our liberty and let them take it. And the part that I fear most is that it is this coming generation that will sink it all. But old farts have been saying that about the generation on their heels since forever. Fuck it. Have a good day and enjoy access to information. We still have it.

SOPA what?

Well, the day has come and gone when I was inspired to make a change. I felt a great need to join the united voice that spoke against the corporate devaluation and manipulation of the internet as we know it. But I am lazy. I confess to you now that I have failed to “stay the course” because I had other shit to do since Wednesday. You did too. I know. I’m as baffled as you. Or I was until I confessed aloud that I am lazier than a fat teenager. I have not one time looked for news as to the outcome -if any- of our struggle. (Can I honestly call the struggle mine now that I have betrayed it to sloth?)

It is not a lack of opportunity. I use the internet regularly enough. I spend most days perched in this aging and creaking chair staring at the too bright light of the unnecessarily overdone display, leaning closer with every wonder filled moment. In fact I have played video games online for hours (browsing simultaneously in many cases), checked for new episodes of Terra Nova and NCIS of course, even built a website for a friend’s upstart. But I didn’t look to see how the legislation was treated. I am stopping now to find out. The suspense is killing me.

SOPA update

Have you contacted your local politico yet? I did. Wasn’t easy. Even with the help of Wikipedia.org, who had a  great idea and helped all of us expedite our concerns, reaching one of my 3 alleged points of contact with my governing body was eyeopening. When trying to contact Lindsay Graham via his website, I was redirected to another local politician. I’m deliberately not using names in case SOPA passes and they start collecting “traitors”. I’d “lol” but it’s not funny to me.

Okay, this cahnges things a bit. As I am writing this I see a email from Lindsay Graham. Well, let’s not dress it up; this is a form reply. As fits it’s nature, it does not cover anything I said in my correspondence. So don’t bother checking the “would like a reply” mail because you won’t get one. And since it is a form letter I don’t have a qualm about sharing it here.

Thank you for taking the time to contact me. I appreciate the opportunity to hear from you.

In spite of the high volume of mail I receive daily, I look forward to reviewing your correspondence and providing a personal response as soon as possible.

As we continue our work in the 112th Congress, I look forward to supporting our troops in the War on Terror, repairing our economy and creating jobs, strengthening Social Security, lowering the tax burden on American families, and making the federal government more accountable and efficient.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if I may be of further assistance to you or your family, and if you need immediate assistance, please call my office at 202-224-5972. If your correspondence pertains to a scheduling request, please fax your request to (202) 224-3808.

Sincerely,

Lindsey Graham

So there you have it. In under 5 minutes Senator Graham let me know he not only doesn’t reply to his own mail but he also cares so little that he has a form letter that is merely a sales pitch for his re-election. Guess I’ll add him to my list of guys who have proven they are better suited to job at Arby’s. And is it jsut me or does it smack of arrogance that he feels his form letter suffices to cover all issues current and future. No need to update the form letter, Lindsay.  You won’t be around to use it much longer I’m sure. As soon as your constituants realize you can’t even handle email they won’t want you at the helm of a ship sailing into legislation regarding technology. I wonder if mechanics who never moved beyond regular gasoline and “carbs” (cars not fitness) still have jobs?
